Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination conducted and controlled by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and eight Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Basic Sciences, Engineering and Technology. GATE consists of a single paper of 3 hours duration, which contains 65 questions carrying a maximum of 100 marks. There are multiple choice questions (MCQs), linked answer type questions and numerical answer type (NAT) questions. The paper also contains general aptitude (GA) type questions like arithmetic, reasoning etc. The GATE score of a candidate reflects a relative performance of a candidate. The score is used for admissions to post-graduate programmes (M.Tech.), PhD in higher educational institutes with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other Government agencies. The score may also use by some research institutes for a project assistant and Public sector units for employment screening purposes. So making a great score in GATE is very considerable for availing all these opportunities.
